Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment designed to lighten the colour of natural teeth and reduce the appearance of stains and discolouration. Teeth can become stained over time due to coffee, tea, red wine, certain foods, smoking and natural ageing.
Professional teeth whitening uses specially formulated whitening agents to break down stains within the tooth structure and create a brighter appearance. The degree of whitening can vary between individuals depending on your natural tooth colour, the type of staining and other dental factors.
At Park St Dental Practice in Mona Vale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, we assess your teeth and gums before whitening to determine whether treatment is suitable for you. We also consider existing fillings, crowns, veneers and other restorations, as these do not whiten in the same way as natural teeth.
We offer Zoom teeth whitening, including in-chair whitening and professional take-home whitening, allowing us to recommend an option based on your individual needs, lifestyle and smile goals.
Teeth can become stained or discoloured for many reasons. Some stains develop on the surface of the teeth from foods, drinks and lifestyle habits, while others occur within the tooth structure or as part of the natural ageing process. Understanding the cause of discolouration helps us determine whether professional teeth whitening may be suitable for you.
Coffee, tea, red wine and other strongly coloured foods and drinks can gradually leave stains on the surface of your teeth. Over time, these stains may make your smile appear darker or less bright. Professional teeth whitening can help reduce many common surface stains and brighten the appearance of natural teeth.
Smoking and tobacco use can cause noticeable yellow or brown staining of the teeth. Tar and nicotine can accumulate on the tooth surface over time, contributing to persistent discolouration. Professional teeth whitening may help improve tobacco-related staining, depending on the condition of your teeth and the type of discolouration.
Teeth naturally change colour as we age. The outer enamel can gradually become thinner, allowing more of the naturally darker dentine underneath to show through. Years of exposure to staining foods and drinks can also contribute. Professional teeth whitening may help brighten the appearance of naturally discoloured teeth when treatment is suitable.
Some types of tooth discolouration develop from within the tooth rather than on its surface. Causes can include certain medications, fluorosis, previous trauma and changes within an individual tooth. These types of discolouration may respond differently to whitening, so a dental assessment is important before deciding on the most appropriate treatment.
At Park St Dental Practice in Mona Vale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, we offer professional teeth whitening options tailored to your smile, lifestyle and treatment goals. Following an assessment of your teeth and gums, we can recommend the whitening approach that may be most suitable for you.
For patients looking for a brighter smile in a shorter timeframe, Zoom in-chair teeth whitening is performed at our Mona Vale dental practice under professional supervision. Your gums and surrounding tissues are carefully protected before professional whitening gel is applied to the teeth. This option allows the whitening process to be closely monitored throughout your appointment.
Prefer to whiten your teeth gradually at home? Our professional take-home whitening uses custom-made trays designed to fit your teeth, together with professionally prescribed whitening gel. We provide clear instructions for use, allowing you to gradually brighten your smile at home while achieving consistent results at a pace that suits your lifestyle and individual whitening goals.
The most suitable whitening option depends on your tooth colour, type of staining, dental health, sensitivity and smile goals. We assess your teeth and gums and discuss the differences between in-chair and take-home whitening before recommending the most appropriate option for your individual needs. In some cases, a combination of the two approaches may be considered.
At Park St Dental Practice in Mona Vale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, professional teeth whitening begins with an assessment of your teeth, gums and existing restorations. We discuss your smile goals and recommend a whitening approach based on your tooth colour, type of staining, dental health and individual needs.
Your appointment begins with an assessment of your teeth, gums and existing restorations. We discuss the type of staining you have, any history of tooth sensitivity and your whitening goals. Where needed, professional cleaning may be recommended before whitening to remove plaque, calculus and surface stains and prepare your teeth for treatment.
Depending on your needs and preferences, we may recommend Zoom in-chair teeth whitening, professional take-home whitening, or a combination of both. We explain the differences between the options and what you can expect from your treatment. Together, we can choose an approach that best suits your lifestyle and smile goals.
Your whitening treatment is carried out according to your personalised plan. For in-chair whitening, your gums and surrounding tissues are carefully protected before the whitening gel is applied. For take-home whitening, we provide custom-made trays, professional whitening gel and clear instructions for use.
After whitening, we provide advice on caring for your teeth and maintaining your brighter smile. You may experience mild tooth sensitivity for a short time, which is usually temporary. Good oral hygiene and limiting strongly coloured foods and drinks can help prolong your results. Occasional touch-ups may also be recommended.
At Park St Dental Practice in Mona Vale, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, we provide professional teeth whitening with a focus on careful assessment, personalised treatment and natural-looking results. Before whitening, we assess your teeth, gums, existing restorations and type of discolouration to determine whether whitening is suitable for you.
We offer Zoom teeth whitening, with both in-chair whitening and professional take-home whitening options. Your treatment is selected according to your tooth colour, type of staining, sensitivity, lifestyle and individual smile goals.
Where needed, professional cleaning may be recommended before whitening to remove plaque, calculus and surface stains. During in-chair whitening, your gums and surrounding tissues are carefully protected, and your treatment is professionally supervised throughout the appointment.
We also consider any fillings, crowns, veneers or other restorations, as these do not whiten in the same way as natural teeth. This allows us to discuss what you can realistically expect from whitening and plan your treatment accordingly.
At our Mona Vale dental practice, we provide personalised aftercare advice to help you maintain your brighter smile and manage any temporary sensitivity following treatment. If you are considering teeth whitening in Mona Vale, contact Park St Dental Practice to arrange an assessment and discuss the whitening options that may be suitable for you.
