If treatment is recommended, we’ll explain your condition and treatment options before proceeding. Our aim is to remove the source of infection, relieve discomfort and preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible, helping restore function and protect your smile for the long term.
Root canal treatment may be recommended when the inner tissue of a tooth becomes inflamed, infected or damaged and is unable to heal. This can result from deep decay, a cracked or fractured tooth, repeated dental procedures or trauma. When appropriate, root canal treatment can help address infection while preserving your natural tooth and maintaining normal function.
Whenever possible, root canal treatment is designed to remove infected tissue while preserving your natural tooth. Keeping the original tooth helps maintain normal chewing, bite alignment and long-term oral function.
Inflammation or infection inside a tooth can cause pain, sensitivity or swelling. Root canal treatment addresses the affected tissue inside the tooth, helping relieve symptoms and prevent the condition from progressing.
Treating an infected tooth promptly may reduce the risk of infection spreading to the surrounding tissues. Preserving the natural tooth also helps maintain normal function and supports better long-term oral health.
Every tooth is carefully assessed before treatment is recommended. Our dentists perform a comprehensive examination and use digital dental X-rays when clinically required to determine whether root canal treatment is appropriate for your individual needs.

If you develop facial swelling, fever, difficulty swallowing or rapidly worsening tooth pain, seek prompt dental care. These symptoms may indicate that an infection has progressed and requires professional assessment. Our team can assess your condition and recommend appropriate treatment to help manage the infection and protect your oral health.
Choosing the right dental practice is just as important as choosing the right treatment. At Park St Dental Practice, we understand that patients considering root canal treatment are often experiencing discomfort and may also feel uncertain about what lies ahead. Our team focuses on providing clear communication, careful diagnosis, and personalised care from your first consultation through to your final review. Every treatment recommendation is based on your individual oral health needs, with the goal of relieving infection while preserving your natural tooth whenever clinically appropriate. We take the time to explain your options, answer your questions, and ensure you feel informed before any treatment begins.
At Park St Dental Practice, our experienced dentists provide gentle, personalised care throughout every stage of your root canal treatment. From diagnosis and treatment planning to root canal therapy, the final restoration and ongoing preventive care, your treatment can be managed in one convenient Mona Vale location. This continuity of care allows our team to understand your dental history, monitor your progress and support the long-term health and function of your restored tooth.
At Park St Dental Practice, our experienced dentists combine modern dental technology with a gentle, supportive approach to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. Digital imaging, local anaesthetic and careful clinical techniques help support accurate diagnosis and treatment. Our team takes the time to explain each stage, answer your questions and address any concerns, so you feel informed, reassured and supported throughout your care.
Recovery after root canal treatment is usually straightforward, and most patients can return to their normal daily activities soon after their appointment.
Some mild tenderness around the treated tooth can occur for a short period, particularly if infection or inflammation was present before treatment. We’ll provide personalised aftercare instructions and explain any temporary precautions that may be appropriate while your tooth settles.
Maintaining good oral hygiene and attending recommended review appointments are important for the long-term health of your treated tooth.
If a permanent filling or dental crown is required, completing the final restoration helps protect the tooth and restore normal function.
Regular brushing, flossing, dental examinations and professional cleans also help maintain the health of the treated tooth and surrounding gums over time.
With appropriate restoration and ongoing preventive care, a root canal-treated tooth can often continue to function well for many years.
