First Dental Visit

The Australian Dental Association recommends that your child’s first oral health visit should take place at 12 months of age, or shortly after the eruption of the first baby teeth. This initial appointment is mainly for oral hygiene instruction to parents, to check  the health of the gum and newly erupted teeth and also to assess child’s face and jaws to detect any possible developmental issue.

Park St Dental is a family and children friendly practice where our dentists love children and enjoy working with them.

When you and your child arrive at Park St Dental Practice, you will go to our waiting room area to fill out some medical and dental history forms on iPad. There you will find magazines, newspapers and Wifi for you to enjoy, and toys, books and games for your child.

After you fill out the forms, your little one will be introduced to our dental team and will be taken on a tour of the practice. You are always welcome to accompany your child to the treatment room for exam and cleaning, and this will give our dentists the opportunity to discuss any dental findings and treatment options directly with you.

Once your child is in a treatment room, they will receive a dental check-up, cleaning and fluoride, and dental radiographs (x-rays) will be taken when it is age appropriate and also necessary. If your child needs additional services such as fillings or sealants, it will be discussed with you in detail and the treatment will be scheduled for a later visit.

During the first visit, we will spend time educating you and your child on proper oral hygiene techniques and a brief dietary consultation. It is important that you follow up on these points at home.

Our practice has the state of the art technology. We have digital intraoral cameras and x-ray units and you will be able to see the tiny teeth of your cutie pie on the screen and discuss the treatment options with the dentist. Also, we have a child friendly extra- oral panoramic (OPG) machine in-house; it means you do not need to take your child outside for the further radiographic examination. Also, we offer x-ray- free caries detection with DIAGNOcam intraoral device for the young kids or when exposure to the x-ray is a concern.

All surgeries at Park St Dental Practice in Mona Vale are equipped with TV and computers; the loved one can watch the favourite show or cartoon during their treatment and the parents can see the details of dental procedures.

Park St Dental Practice is located in a welcoming character cottage, where children feel comfortable. I have a little patient who calls me The dentist in the house. Children love coming back to our practice and we love to have them around.

We absolutely love kids and enjoy seeing them. We do everything that we could to make their dental experience fun.
